Symbolism
There are a number of theories about the meaning of Illuminati Handshake symbol. Some believe that it represents the letters G and O, representing God and geometry. Others believe that it stands for ‘Gnosis’, or the knowledge of spiritual mysteries. Finally, some believe that it is a symbol of Freemasonry, indicating the principles of Brotherly Love, Relief (or Morality), and Truth.
Some scholars believe that the Illuminati handshake is a coded gesture that conveys occult secrets. This hypothesis is based on the fact that the unusual splayed fingers are similar to the letter M, which signifies Masonic membership and rank. This symbolism has fascinated many scholars of secret societies, but it is impossible to prove.
The handshake is also a symbol of Skull and Bones, a secret society at Yale University. The society has members from the worlds of politics, business, and the media. Famous Skull and Bones members include Presidents William Howard Taft and George HW Bush; the founder of Time magazine, Henry Luce; and former secretary of state John Kerry. The group is rumored to be out to control the world, prompting conspiracy theories about the secret organization. Skull and Bones members are also often pictured with a skull and crossbones, which is the emblem of the society.
History
Despite the Illuminati being outlawed by the Bavarian ruler Karl Theodor in 1787, conspiracies surrounding the secret society remain alive and well. The group was supposedly founded by professor Adam Weishaupt in an attempt to supplant organized religion and the monarchy with a new movement for “illumination through reason.” Weishaupt was inspired by various groups, including the Roman mystery religion Mithraism, the Freemasons (of which he was a member), and the Kabbalah. He even used a Masonic handshake, with the fingers splayed, as his signal. It is believed that the gesture conveyed a message about membership, rank, and occult secrets.
Significance
The significance of the handshake is not known, but it is speculated that the splayed fingers represent the letters M and W. They may also be read as the numbers 666, which is said to symbolize Satanism. This hypothesis is based on the fact that Renaissance, Mannerist and Baroque art often depicted these strange hand gestures, which are believed to convey secret messages.
Nevertheless, this handshake is not depicted in any of the art manuals, symbolism guidelines and religious books. It is also not found in any sects or secret societies in the Western world. Therefore, it is unlikely that the Illuminati handshake has any significance other than a symbolic greeting. It is also unclear how the gesture relates to the alleged satanic secrets of the Freemasons.
Meaning
There are many theories about the meaning behind Illuminati handshake, including that it was a secret sign conveying satanic symbolism. Others claim that it was a Masonic gesture used to recognize fellow Freemasons. This theory is based on the fact that the hand gesture resembles multiple V’s and I’s, which represent the number 666 in gematria. Nevertheless, there is no evidence that Renaissance, Mannerist or Baroque artists used this hand posture as a code for masonic membership or rank. Moreover, the splayed fingers of the handshake are not found in any fully illustrated Kabbalistic or Sephardic manuscripts/books from this period.
