Misaki's name is derived from the Japanese word for "beautiful blossom" (, mishi ). Her surname Tohoin also derives from an ancient clan of warriors in Japan's Sengoku Period. One of the most famous Tohoin legends tells of a senior retainer named Kira Chikazane who opposed his lord Chosokabe Motochika in a conflict of power and was forced to commit seppuku along with all his followers. The spirits of Chikazane and his retainers are said to have been restless spirits who continue to cause strange occurrences around their graves and haunt the area.
As a result of her youkai heritage, Misaki has great natural talent and physical abilities. She is quite adept at bare-hand combat in the same way as her youkai brother, slashing and thrusting her hands with great speed, but she often emphasizes her kicks as well. She also has a natural understanding of the current world, much more so than her friends and is able to deduce things from what she sees with her eyes, rather than by reading books or other texts.
