City of Houston Chief Technology Officer Ron Burkey
Houston’s Chief Technology Officer Ron Burkey oversees the City’s information technology and communications services, including the production of all video and audio content on City Hall TV (HTV), the City's multifaceted public-access television channel. HTV cablecasts 24/7 and provides live programming of City Council and council committee meetings. The City also uses the HTV platform to host its open data portal, which is designed to encourage civic engagement and collaboration, improve transparency, and facilitate access to public information. In addition, the City's AlertHouston system enables residents to receive emergency notifications. The City also maintains a variety of websites and apps to provide information to residents.
City of Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner
Mayor Sylvester Turner was elected to a second four-year term as Houston’s 62nd mayor in 2015 and has guided the City through some of its most challenging times. His mother, a maid at the Rice Hotel and his father, a commercial painter for Continental Ensco, both worked hard to provide for their nine children. Turner graduated as valedictorian from Klein High School and attended the University of Houston and Harvard Law School, where he was a member of the Dean’s List. He began his career as a lawyer with Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P and later founded Barnes & Turner Law Firm.
As mayor, Turner believes in empowering people to believe in themselves and work to achieve their dreams. He is committed to continuing Houston’s economic recovery, and has focused on job creation, making the City a safer place to live and work, tackling homelessness, reducing crime and supporting small businesses. He has also continued to build on the City’s global connections, welcoming Sister Cities International 2022 to Houston and promoting international engagement at all levels of city government.
