A Course in Miracles Combined Volume

A Course in Miracles is a self-study spiritual thought system course of miracles that includes the Text, Workbook for Students, and Manual for Teachers. Also included are two Supplements, Psychotherapy: Purpose, Process and Practice and Song of Prayer.

This Combined Volume is the edition that the Course's Scribes, Helen Schucman and William Thetford, authorized for publication and that is used in thousands of Course study groups worldwide.

Text

A Course in Miracles is a three-volume self-study spiritual thought system that teaches forgiveness as the path to inner peace and the remembrance of God. It is taught in a universalistic manner, using a language that is both psychological and spiritual. Although the Course uses Christian terminology, it does not claim to be a religion and teaches that there are "many thousands of forms" that the course can take.

The Course consists of a Text, a Workbook for Students and a Manual for Teachers. The Workbook contains 365 lessons, one for each day of the year, which are designed to change the way you think about the world and your place in it. The Text presents the theory of the Course, laying out its central ideas in a holistic, symphonic-like progression. The Manual, written in question-and-answer form, explains many of the questions that might arise for students of the Course. This Combined Volume includes the two valuable Supplements to A Course in Miracles, Psychotherapy: Purpose, Process and Practice and The Song of Prayer.

While the work of editing the Course has been extensive, there is much that was removed because it did not seem to fit in with the overall theme or approach of the work. As a result, there are several versions of the Text and the Workbook.

The version of A Course in Miracles on this website is based on the original edition, which was approved by its two scribes, Helen Schucman and Bill Thetford, for publication by the Foundation for Inner Peace in 1975. This is the version that has been used in the thousands of ACIM study groups around the world. It combines the HLC text with the FIP chapters and divisions, making it easy to study with people who use the FIP edition. It also contains the three missing miracles in the first five chapters of the Text, which were removed because they did not seem to relate to the overall theme of the course.

Workbook

The Workbook for Students contains the 365 daily lessons that form the core of the Course, a curriculum designed to teach forgiveness as the way to inner peace and the remembrance of God. The lessons are both theoretical and practical, offering a step-by-step approach to changing one's beliefs and perceptions. While the lessons are easy to read, they require a willingness to question traditional values and a commitment to spend time practicing them daily.

A Course in Miracles is a three-volume curriculum that teaches the way to universal love and peace by undoing guilt and forgiving others. First published in 1976, it has sold over three million copies worldwide without any advertising. It has helped to change the lives of men and women from every walk of life, from many different religious backgrounds. It has become a nondenominational spiritual teaching, although it uses language that is based in traditional Christianity.

This Combined Volume contains the complete version of A Course in Miracles that its scribe, Helen Schucman, authorized for publication. It includes the Text, Workbook for Students and Manual for Teachers. It also contains two valuable Supplements to the Course: Psychotherapy: Purpose, Process and Practice and The Song of Prayer. This is the only edition of A Course in Miracles that contains all of its original content, except for three miracles removed from earlier editions that were personal and related to the authors. It is the edition that has been used most by students in thousands of Course study groups around the world.

Manual

A Course in Miracles is a spiritual teaching that emphasizes forgiveness as the way to inner peace. It has impacted the lives of thousands of people and has been translated into many languages. Its principles are applicable to any belief system and to all situations. Unlike most books, it does not require extensive reading or practice periods. However, it does challenge readers to question their current values and beliefs. The Course is not a religion, but rather a reiteration of the core wisdom found in all major world religions.

This Combined Volume, 3rd Edition contains the Text and Workbook of A Course in Miracles along with two valuable Supplements: Psychotherapy: Purpose, Process and Practice and The Song of Prayer. This Combined Volume is the only one that includes the complete writings that Dr. Helen Schucman, the Course’s Scribe, authorized to be printed. It is published by the Foundation for Inner Peace, the not-for-profit organization that was designated by the Course’s scribes to publish it and maintain its copyright and trademark.

The Course is a three-volume curriculum consisting of a Text, Workbook for Students and Manual for Teachers. The Text presents the theoretical foundation of the thought system, while the Workbook provides 365 daily lessons to train the mind to accept the ideas in the Text. The Manual for Teachers, written in question-and-answer format, addresses the more practical aspects of the Course.

This Combined volume contains the HLC version of the Course’s text, beginning with Chapter 5. In addition to incorporating the HLC text, this edition also includes FIP chapters for comparison purposes. This will allow those who use the HLC text, but study with those who use the FIP, to follow each other without difficulty.

This Combined Volume also includes the HLC’s version of the Workbook for Students and Supplements for a fuller understanding of the Course. The Workbook for Students contains the questions and answers from the Manual for Teachers in a format that is easy to understand. The Supplements are designed to answer common questions that students may have.

Supplements

A Course in Miracles is a unique spiritual self-study program in mind-training designed to help you undo the illusion that you are separate from God and other people. It has been taught in thousands of Course study groups worldwide and is now available in 27 languages, including this Combined Volume, which contains all three parts of the original edition that its Scribe, Dr. Helen Schucman, authorized to be printed and published by The Foundation for Inner Peace in 1975.

The Course consists of a 669-page Text, a 478-page Workbook for Students, and an 88-page Manual for Teachers. Its curriculum is carefully conceived at both the theoretical and practical levels, and it emphasizes application rather than theory and experience over doctrine. It expresses a non-sectarian, universal spirituality. Although Christian in statement, it makes no attempt to teach a doctrine of salvation or any specific theology.

This Combined Volume includes the two Supplements to A Course in Miracles: Psychotherapy: Purpose, Process and Practice and The Song of Prayer. These sections are extensions of the Course principles and were dictated to Dr. Helen Schucman shortly after she completed A Course in Miracles.

This is the only original edition of A Course in Miracles that was sanctioned by its Scribe, Helen Schucman, to be published and distributed through The Foundation for Inner Peace. It is also the only edition of the Book that excludes unsanctioned material found in first or second drafts of the Course that Schucman deleted since it was not meant to be a part of the published version of the Course.
