A Course in Miracles Versions

Depending on which version you are using, A Course in Miracles can be rewritten for the Lessons, Workbook, or Original edition. Creating an edit of these materials is not as difficult as you might think. You just have to follow a few basic a course in miracles guidelines. Then you'll be ready to go!

Editing a course in miracles version

A Course in Miracles has several versions. The FIP version was published in 1976. Later, an HLC version was published in the ARE Library in 1999. Both versions were not widely available until the year 2000. During this time, the Foundation for Inner Peace sued anyone who tried to use the manuscript without copyright.

While editing a Course in Miracles version, the first step is to remove any personal writing. The first step is to remove any personal notes or annotations, and any scribal errors. In addition, you should try to read as closely as possible, like you would a later edition.

Another important step is to edit the text. The original text of A Course in Miracles was dictated by the author and was completed in September 1972. The original version is composed of three volumes, including the original text, a Teacher's Manual and Student Workbook. The original version also includes a glossary of terms and analyses of the earliest versions of the text.

Helen's notes were heavily edited. At least 6,000 words were cut out. She was still left with over 35,000 words. However, the Course itself was substantially unchanged. The Urtext and Hugh Lynn Cayce Versions both show that the original text was subject to a thorough editing process.

Workbook

There are two versions of The Workbook for Miracles: the First Edition and the Second Edition. Both of these volumes have the same content, but they are formatted differently. The first is the original text, which was dictated by Dr. Helen Schucman. It was completed in September 1972 and resulted in three volumes. Helen Schucman and Bill Thetford divided the text into chapters and gave the sections titles. They then removed material from early chapters that were meant for their own personal use.

The Workbook for Miracles is an accessible version of The Course. It has a small, convenient size and can be carried wherever you go. It is available in a wide variety of formats. The Pocket Edition Text is compatible with the popular ACIM Workbook/Manual. This compact version is 8 x 5 inches thick.

Both the Workbook for Miracles and the Second Edition are arranged as a teaching device. While the First Edition contains the primary text, the Workbook for Miracles contains additional material that enables students to deepen their understanding of the concepts presented in the text. Both versions are meant to support students in transforming their lives.

The Second Edition has more details and is generally easier to read. The Soul version has an improved typesetting and more depth on the principals of miracles. It is also smaller than the Circle of Atonement version. Nevertheless, the differences between the two editions remain. You can find more information on the different versions in articles published by the Community Miracles Center and the Course in Miracles Society.

If you've read the book, you know that the Workbook for Miracles teaches the concepts of universal love and remembering God. It emphasizes a nonsectarian and non-denominational spirituality. It is widely available and has sold over two million copies in the English language.

Original edition

The original edition of A Course in Miracles was a three-volume manuscript of dictation, finished in September 1972. The two editors, Helen Schucman and Bill Thetford, reorganized the text and gave it titles. They also removed some material from the early chapters, believing that they were meant for their own personal use. The original edition was published by the Course in Miracles Society.

The FIP edition of the book was first published in 1976. However, it wasn't until 1999 that the HLC version was found in the ARE Library. The UR Text, which was discovered in 2000, was not until after Ken had been sued by the Foundation for Inner Peace for copyright violations. The Foundation for Inner Peace then began suing anyone who had tried to use the work without its copyright.

The UR text contains the text, workbook, and Teachers Manual. In addition, the UR text includes the Gifts of God pamphlet and the Song of Prayer. The UR text is nearly complete in both the lessons and the Teachers Manual, but needs some re-typing.

The first FIP edition was published in three separate hardback volumes. It does not include the PREFACE. However, it does include a CLARIFICATION OF TERMS at the end of the third volume. The Manual for Teachers section was also added to the FIP edition. However, it has a later copyright date, 1985.

The original manuscript was edited after Helen Schucman completed it in 1972. There were changes, which included replacing some words and adding others. Some of these changes were typographical corrections. During the revision process, Helen Schucman and Bill Thetford made changes that resulted in the "Original Edition."

Compressed version

There are many versions of A Course in Miracles. Some of them were published by the Foundation for Inner Peace (FIP) and some of them were not. While both have a similar format, there are significant differences. For example, the FIP version is smaller than the original text, while the UR Text is larger than the original text.

The Urtext was edited by Helen Schucman. Her handwriting lacked the clarity of the original text. This led some readers to assume that the Course teaches the world as an actual classroom. But Cayce's version stated that God created the world as a classroom after separating the souls.

As for the differences between the original text and the CE edition, the Community Miracles Center provides background on the differences between the two. But it does not cover the ACIM CE. The CE edition has not been updated to reflect the differences between the two versions. However, it is important to note that both versions are written with the same aim in mind.

The Combined Volume of A Course in Miracles comes in 3 binding styles. This edition is the only edition of the Course that contains all the author's authorized writings. It contains the Song of Prayer, the Psychotherapy, and the Purpose, Process, and Practice. These are extensions of the principles taught in the original text.

The first version of the course was based on Helen's dictation. This was the material up to and including Chapters 4 and 5. Helen asked questions to Jesus, which he answered. Sometimes Jesus corrected her mishearing. Helen termed these corrections as "scribal errors".
